Starting at 10am and running until 4pm, there will be the Annual food bazzar held at Dendocho in Los Angeles.
The food that will be served is Teriyaki Chicken, Teriyaki Beef, Grilled Corn, Udon noodles, Shaved Ice, and Famous Chirashi Sushi. All plates sell for $5 or less.
Aside from the delicious food there will also be "Plants, Gifts, and Games"
You will find me at the BBQ Beef booth from 12-2pm. Hope to see you there! _________________ Keep the mind of a three year old child |

At the Los Angeles Dendocho, we gather anually to raise money. Members gather and maintain game booths and food. The kitchen is filled with people preparing Obentos containing beef or chicken. The Young Men's Assoc. and Fujinkai stay outside either hosting games and doing the beef and chicken BBQ that gets put into the Obentos. I got to participate for the first time this year and I have to say, I had a blast! I was such a relaxing sunny day, cooking meat under a tent and conversing with some of the guys over some beer. Kids were playing games and winning prizes, and it was a great way to get ALL the church groups to participate in one large activity. _________________ Keep the mind of a three year old child |

Hawaii Dendocho has had an annual bazaar for the last 40 years or so. There are a variety of used items for sale and new items made by Fujinkai members on top of a flower/plant, fruit/vegetable, and food booths. It is arguably the biggest event that the Hawaii diocese is involved in. Although it is the local followers and Yoboku who do much of the preparation and man the food booths on the day of the bazaar, they have also recently taken advantage of companies that provide prepared food for fundraisers, the most recent one had barbeque chicken and doughnuts. In past years they sold instant noodles in cups from a local company that would provide a refrigerator trailer if we ordered a certain number of cups. I remember how a follower from another island would have anthiriums (sp?) sent before the bazaar. I am not sure if that is still going on. The Hawaii Young Men's Association pounds mochi at the bazaar. Lewis and Lucas Nakao (at least one of them are members of this forum) had a new booth making bubble drinks this year, you can maybe ask them how that went. But it looked pretty hectic for them.
There are also "mini-bazaars" after Dendocho's monthly services now, but I never really participated in those so I can't say much about them.
These large events require much planning and preparation. I think the idea is to start small and gradually branch out as the congregation grows. One good idea is always have the offerings from the monthly services available for followers to take home during the after-service meal (naorai). That is something the Hawaii Young Men's Assn. took over maybe about four or five years ago. _________________ "It is of utmost importance to have a mind that does not allow things to go to waste or to spoil. Lucas and I used to work at a "Bubble Drink" shop at the food court of Ala Moana Shopping Center and my brother wanted to start a bubble drink booth. Basically what I bubble drink (the kind that we made) were blended ice with flavored powder with tapioca balls at the bottom. It's pretty popular and we sell a lot every year. It's pretty tough since we have to make it before you order it. Not really a good idea if you haven't got any experience or good preperation (last bazzar).
just thought you might have been interested in that... _________________ "One World, One Family" -Tenrikyo
